The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development has announced that ongoing surveys for the redevelopment of roads in Male’ and Villimale’ will address a broad range of urban challenges, extending beyond flood mitigation. The ministry confirmed that the research phase will identify holistic solutions to improve the overall quality of the capital’s infrastructure.

This major road development initiative is being carried out under a grant assistance program from the Chinese government. A technical team from China is currently stationed in Male’ to conduct the necessary surveys and site assessments required to begin the project.

Minister of Housing, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, provided an update to the media following a visit to the Artificial Beach area to observe the survey progress. He emphasized that the detailed design phase will incorporate long-term solutions for various road-related issues, ensuring the project meets modern urban standards.

During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, His Excellency Cong Peiwu. The technical survey team briefed both officials on the current status of the fieldwork and the strategic approach being taken for the road design and infrastructure layout.
