The Maldives Customs Service has intercepted over five kilograms of narcotics at Gan International Airport in Addu City. The seizure occurred on July 18 during a routine inspection of passengers arriving via air travel.
Authorities reported that the illicit substances were discovered concealed within the luggage of two Indian nationals. Upon forensic examination, the substance was confirmed to be 5.5 kilograms of cannabis.
Customs officials have estimated the total street value of the confiscated drugs to be approximately MVR 4.4 million. This major bust comes amid a noted increase in attempts to smuggle narcotics into the Maldives through international ports of entry.
