A 19-year-old Maldivian man has been taken into police custody following a violent incident at a restaurant in the Maafannu district of Malé. The Maldives Police Service reported that they received reports of the disturbance at approximately 11:00 PM on the night of August 22.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly assaulted a woman inside the establishment and attacked several individuals who attempted to intervene and de-escalate the conflict. During the altercation, significant property damage was also caused to the restaurant’s entrance door.

Police officials confirmed that a female staff member sustained head injuries during the assault, resulting in visible swelling. The 19-year-old suspect remains in custody as investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
