The Maldives Zakat House has released its financial statistics for April 2026, revealing that medical treatment remains the primary area of expenditure within the Zakat Fund. According to official data, the total amount collected as Zakat on Wealth reached MVR 5,434,893 for the month.

While the collection reflects a 53.8% decrease compared to the previous month, it represents an 8.9% growth over the same period in 2025. Conversely, total fund expenditure rose significantly to MVR 3,811,259.91, marking a 34.8% increase from April 2025’s figure of MVR 2,828,118.28.

A significant portion of the funds allocated to the poor and needy was directed toward medical assistance, totaling MVR 1,266,508.39. Additionally, MVR 182,731 was spent on essential needs, a substantial increase from the MVR 42,500 recorded during the same timeframe last year.

The ‘Fi-Sabilillah’ category saw the highest total allocation at MVR 2,167,016.73. This covered various religious and educational initiatives, including MVR 1,093,749.47 for Quran propagation and Hafiz training, MVR 782,992.50 for the construction of Quran centers in the atolls, and MVR 290,274.76 for higher education support.

Notably, administrative and salary costs under the ‘Amilun’ category saw a significant decrease, falling to MVR 195,003.79 compared to the MVR 483,077.82 spent in April 2025.
