Malé – The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert for regions spanning from Kaafu Atoll to Laamu Atoll, warning of heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions. The alert is in effect from 8:45 AM to 2:00 PM today.
According to the Met Office, winds are expected to blow from the west and northwest in the northern and central atolls, and from the southwest and west in the southern atolls, at speeds ranging between 7 to 17 miles per hour. However, during squalls, wind speeds may reach up to 30 miles per hour.
Sea conditions are predicted to be moderately rough, becoming rough during squalls, with wave heights forecasted between 2 to 4 feet.
The current adverse weather is attributed to a trough that has formed over the Maldives region. The Met Office stated that weather conditions are expected to improve by April 11.
