The “Authentic Maldives” boutique at Velana International Airport (VIA) has officially reopened following a comprehensive expansion and modernization project. Located within the airport’s new terminal, the retail space has been redesigned to offer a contemporary and spacious shopping experience for international travelers.
Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, highlighted that the upgrade was executed under the specific directives of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to elevate Maldivian craftsmanship and local products within the global marketplace.
The store’s footprint has significantly increased, expanding from its previous 60 square meters to a substantial 150 square meters. Minister Saeed noted that this expansion provides a vital platform for local artisans and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from across the Maldives to showcase their creative talents to the world.
By serving as a premier hub for high-quality, locally-made goods, the modernized outlet ensures that departing tourists have seamless access to authentic Maldivian heritage, thereby fostering growth within the nation’s creative industry.
