Hassan Shakir Mohamed, a prominent Maldivian poet, has been elected as the President of the Dhivehi Language Academy. The election took place at a ceremony held at the Heritage Ministry, following a vote among members.
This appointment fills the position vacated by Dr. Ashraf Abdur Raheem, who resigned as president at the end of last year. Mr. Shakir secured the most votes in the election process.
Professional Background and Contributions
Mr. Shakir is recognised for his extensive contributions to the field of Dhivehi language and literature. His work has focused on advancing Dhivehi writing and literary development.
His accolades include the Public Service Encouragement Award, which he received in 1998 for his work in Dhivehi poetry. In 2007, he was further honoured with an Encouragement Award for his service to Dhivehi literature, specifically in the area of Dhivehi public speaking.
