The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has officially donated a significant consignment of drug testing kits to the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Customs Service to bolster the nation’s efforts in combating illicit narcotics.

The donation, handed over during a special ceremony, consists of 30 drug test kits, 30 precursor chemical kits, and 180 pocket chemical test kits. To ensure the proper application of these resources, the UNODC also provided five USB drives containing instructional training videos for law enforcement personnel.

The Maldives Customs Service received 20 drug and precursor kits alongside 60 pocket kits, while the Maldives Police Service was allocated 40 drug and precursor kits and 120 pocket kits. These specialized tools are designed to streamline the identification process and provide rapid, accurate results.

Each kit is engineered to perform up to 500 individual tests and is specifically calibrated to detect 10 types of narcotics most commonly imported into the Maldives. Notably, the results from these kits are designed to be admissible as forensic evidence in legal proceedings, significantly enhancing the efficiency of drug-related investigations.
