ADh. Dhangethi, Maldives – A devastating fire in an expatriate workers’ accommodation block on ADh. Dhangethi has claimed the lives of five individuals. The tragic incident, which occurred overnight, also left several others injured.

The Maldives Police Service reported that they received information about the fire around 2:00 AM. Out of eight individuals who sustained injuries, five were confirmed deceased.

Two individuals with serious injuries and severe burns have been transported to Malé for advanced medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the blaze has since been brought under control and extinguished.

In response to the incident, a specialized investigative team from Malé is scheduled to deploy to Dhangethi. The police further stated that this team will include a medical doctor to aid in the ongoing inquiry into the cause and circumstances of the fire.
