L. Gan, Maldives – The ‘Thundee Bandharu Mosque’, a new religious facility constructed through private funding, was officially inaugurated today in L. Gan. Mr. Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru, State Minister of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, officiated the opening of the mosque, which has a capacity for 342 worshippers.

Construction work for the Thundee Bandharu Mosque commenced on 11 May 2023.
Future Initiatives
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has indicated its intention to inaugurate additional mosques before the forthcoming month of Ramadan. In a separate development, the government is making preparations to lay the foundation stone for what is projected to be the largest mosque ever built in the Maldives. This event is scheduled for September, coinciding with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives embracing Islam.
