The Maldives Police Service has apprehended a third individual in connection with the violence that broke out during the People’s National Congress (PNC) internal election on Saturday. The incident occurred while officials were processing vote counts.
According to official police statements, the third suspect, a 24-year-old Maldivian male, was taken into custody on Sunday night under a court warrant. This follows the earlier arrests of two other men, aged 23 and 24, in relation to the same disturbance.
All three suspects were presented before the court to determine their detention status, where they were ordered to be remanded in custody for a period of 15 days. While the investigation remains active, authorities have not yet released the specific identities of the individuals involved.
