The Government of Maldives has awarded a contract to Thailand-based Control Data Ltd. to redesign and modernize the country’s civil registration, vital statistics, and identification management system.

The project falls under the Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralization, and Diversification (DMADD) Project, which is implemented by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology with grant assistance from the World Bank.

The contract agreement was signed by State Minister Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath on behalf of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, while Managing Director Nart Liuchareon signed on behalf of Control Data Ltd.

This initiative aims to strengthen the Department of National Registration (DNR)’s identity system, forming a core component of the DMADD project.

Once implemented, the new system will enable:
Integration with the e-Faas digital identity system, managed by the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT)
Real-time population data access for local governments and councils
Enhanced access to statistics for the Ministry of Health and the Maldives Bureau of Statistics

This transition to a digital, real-time, and secure identity management system is expected to enhance efficiency and accessibility across government institutions.
