The Criminal Court has scheduled the trial of Hussain Sunny Umar, who faces multiple counts of sexual assault against minors, to commence tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.

Umar faces several high-profile charges, including three counts of intentional sexual contact with children. These allegations involve a seven-year-old victim over multiple occasions, as well as two other children. If convicted, each sexual assault charge carries a statutory prison sentence ranging from 10 to 14 years.

In addition to the sexual offense charges, the prosecution has indicted Umar for obstruction of justice after he allegedly attempted to destroy evidence by claiming his mobile phone was lost during the investigation. Furthermore, he is charged with providing false information to an official agency regarding a SIM card used. The penalty for obstruction of justice is set at one year and seven months, while providing false information carries a sentence of four months and 24 days.

To safeguard the rights and interests of the minors involved, the Criminal Court will conduct the proceedings behind closed doors. However, the final verdict is expected to be delivered in an open court session. Umar has remained in custody pending the outcome of the trial since January.
