The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has successfully recovered more than half a billion Rufiyaa in outstanding payments due to the state so far this year. According to the latest monthly report released by the tax authority, a total of MVR 543 million has been collected through various recovery mechanisms.
A significant portion of the recovered funds, totaling MVR 372 million, was obtained through official enforcement notices. Additionally, MVR 64 million was collected under installment plans and payment concessions offered to taxpayers. MIRA also reported that MVR 96 million was settled as part of the process for obtaining tax clearances for business operations and other regulatory requirements.
Further efforts, including direct communication via telephone and email, resulted in the recovery of MVR 5 million, while MIRA’s specific enforcement policies brought in an additional MVR 4 million. Despite these successful collections, the authority noted that a substantial amount of state revenue remains outstanding. MIRA continues to publish the names of individuals and businesses that fail to meet their tax obligations as part of its compliance efforts.
