Maldivian authorities have launched an extensive search operation for two individuals reported missing after a landing craft traveling from K. Thilafushi encountered distress near K. Gaafaru. The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the incident was reported today at approximately 08:48 AM.

The vessel, carrying a total of ten people, began taking on water and subsequently sank. While eight individuals have been successfully rescued and are in stable condition, two remain unaccounted for. Rescue teams from the Maldives Police Service and relevant maritime agencies are currently patrolling a large area despite challenging conditions.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued warnings regarding severe weather conditions affecting the archipelago, with rough seas and wind gusts of up to 50 mph expected during squalls. Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid non-essential maritime travel and to exercise extreme caution if they must venture out.
