Velana International Airport (VIA) has released its statistics for the second quarter of 2026, recording a total of 48,966 air traffic movements. The data highlights that seaplanes accounted for the overwhelming majority of flight activities during this period.
Of the total air traffic movements, international flights contributed 6,714 operations, while domestic wheel-based flights accounted for 5,957. In contrast, seaplane movements reached 36,295, representing the most significant portion of the airport’s total aerial operations.
Despite the high frequency of seaplane movements, international wheel-based flights carried the largest share of passengers. VIA served a total of 1.62 million passengers in Q2, with 1.04 million of those being international travelers. Seaplane services catered to 341,792 passengers during the same timeframe.
The airport also observed peak traffic days in April. The highest single-day passenger volume for wheel-based flights occurred on April 5, 2026, with 18,924 passengers. Seaplane operations saw their busiest day on April 12, 2026, handling a record 5,707 passengers.
