The National Pay Commission has announced a reduction in salaries and allowances for Permanent Secretaries and Secretaries General of local councils, effective from next month. The decision was communicated to relevant authorities via a circular issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
According to the CSC, the revised pay structure applies to Permanent Secretaries across state ministries, as well as both permanent and temporary Secretaries General (SG) in local councils. Previously, senior officials in these roles, particularly city council SGs and ministerial Permanent Secretaries, received monthly remunerations totaling approximately MVR 53,000. Under the new framework, these amounts are set to decrease.
In addition to senior executive pay adjustments, the circular outlined changes to the employment matrices for three information technology categories. These include ICT Operations and User Support Technicians, ICT Managers, and Information Communication Technology Analysts. The Civil Service Commission confirmed that these new fiscal measures will be fully implemented starting the first day of the coming month.
