Former Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Moosa “Reeko” Maniku, has asserted that the party remains a permanent fixture in the Maldivian political landscape, noting a significant shift in the political climate since 2023.

In a statement shared via social media, Maniku called for the upcoming internal chairperson election to be conducted with decorum, ensuring the party’s integrity is preserved. He emphasized that the successful candidate must possess the leadership qualities necessary to unify all members and move the party forward collectively.

Maniku urged supporters of all candidates to refrain from campaign tactics that could potentially harm the party’s reputation. He further observed that recent public sentiment demonstrates a continued national reliance on the MDP’s core values, which have shaped Maldivian democratic discourse for over two decades.
