President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a comprehensive plan to establish a “green belt” as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé.

Speaking during a President’s Office podcast, Dr. Muizzu emphasized that environmental sustainability and urban greenery are top priorities for his administration’s infrastructure projects. The redevelopment of Malé’s ring road, which began last August, is being executed in five distinct segments.

The President detailed the vision for the green belt, explaining that it will feature a combination of trees planted directly into the ground at regular intervals and large, strategically placed potted plants. “The goal is to transform the streetscape into a lush, green corridor that is far more vibrant than before,” he stated.

Currently, construction efforts are concentrated near the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. The project aims to broaden the road while integrating these aesthetic and ecological improvements to enhance the capital city’s urban environment.
