President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that his administration will facilitate the largest volume of housing units in Maldivian history. Speaking at a ceremony held at the People’s National Congress (PNC) headquarters to celebrate the party’s success in the Local Council Elections, the President reaffirmed housing as a cornerstone of his policy agenda.
President Muizzu emphasized that the government’s primary objectives are to guarantee basic housing for every citizen and to enhance national prosperity. He criticized previous administrations for initiating housing projects solely to coincide with election cycles, which often resulted in citizens being unable to occupy units long after the polls had closed.
Reflecting on his tenure as Housing Minister, the President noted his commitment to streamlining project completion. He stated that since assuming office, his administration has prioritized the reclamation of land for plots previously allocated in lagoons and the completion of stalled flat projects. Furthermore, he announced that several new housing initiatives are already underway across the atolls, with additional projects set to commence later this year.
