President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the introduction of PayPal services in the Maldives is a direct result of his administration’s dedicated efforts since taking office, promising further advancements in the digital payment sector.

Speaking at a press conference, President Muizzu highlighted that the platform now enables Maldivians to receive foreign currency and access international services. He emphasized that this development is particularly transformative for small-scale entrepreneurs and local artisans, allowing them to sell goods and services globally and receive payments directly in US dollars.

The President noted that as a globally recognized platform, PayPal will provide significant momentum to the country’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He affirmed that the government remains committed to expanding these services through continued collaboration with international partners and local telecommunications provider Ooredoo.

According to the President, the initiative has seen rapid adoption. Since its recent launch, 3,280 individuals have linked their accounts to the service, with 2,159 users already successfully activating their digital wallets.
