President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today participated in the Maldives-Germany Business Roundtable, held in Berlin during his ongoing official visit to Germany. The President utilised the event to outline the Maldives’ economic vision and invite German investors to partake in the nation’s development initiatives.

President Muizzu Addresses Roundtable

Addressing the roundtable, President Muizzu expressed his pleasure at meeting German business leaders, acknowledging their contributions to shaping global commerce and fostering sustainable values.

Vision 2040 Outlined

He highlighted the Maldives’ ‘Vision 2040’, describing it as a commitment to strengthening the Maldivian economy, modernising institutions, and ensuring that national development safeguards the environment while improving the daily lives of citizens. Key steps outlined for realising Vision 2040 included modernising financial systems, further facilitating foreign exchange avenues, and digitalising public services.

Economic Progress and Investor Confidence

The President noted that the country’s official reserves have reached record levels, with increased foreign currency circulation. He also underscored the progress made in reducing the budget deficit, stating that maintaining fiscal discipline is a core government policy. President Muizzu observed that such positive advancements have boosted investor confidence in the Maldives, evidenced by major technology companies like Google investing in enhancing the nation’s digital connectivity.

Call for German Investment in Tourism

President Muizzu’s speech also acknowledged the significant role played by German investors, tour operators, and financial institutions in strengthening the Maldivian tourism industry. He announced 2027 as “Visit Maldives Year” and extended an invitation to German investors to participate in this initiative.
