President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today stated that the main purpose of digitalizing the Maldives is to eliminate corruption.

Speaking at the ongoing press conference at the President’s Office, which began at 10:00 AM today, the President emphasized that his administration intends to govern through a digital system.

The President explained that “Maldives 2.0” is a governance initiative being launched with the primary goal of eradicating corruption from the country.

“The main purpose is to eliminate corruption. When there are more opportunities for human intervention in any process, human nature tends to introduce some form of misconduct. By transitioning to automatic digital processes that require certain procedures, we can significantly reduce corruption,” the President stated.

“With a digital system, corruption can be eliminated, transparency can be increased, and processes can be expedited.”

The President mentioned that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during his official visit to Estonia last year.

He had previously stated that the government’s goal is to digitalize all services in the Maldives with assistance from Estonia, thereby reducing opportunities for corruption.
