President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to embark on an official state visit to Sri Lanka on May 3, according to reports from Sri Lankan media. This marks the President’s first official visit to the neighboring nation since assuming office.

The visit, which is expected to take place from May 3 to May 5, will focus on strengthening bilateral relations through the signing of six Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). These agreements will reportedly span several key sectors, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education.

In addition to cooperation in essential services, both nations are expected to formalize agreements on joint tourism promotion and the enhancement of their respective National Archives. The move is seen as a significant step in deepening the socio-economic and cultural ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

While the President’s Office has not yet issued an official comment on the schedule, the visit follows a diplomatic milestone last July, when Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited the Maldives. This upcoming mission is expected to further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two Indian Ocean neighbors.
