Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen today affirmed the Maldives Police Service’s (MPS) unwavering commitment to collaborating with schools to foster safe and secure communities across the nation. The pledge was made in a message released to mark the commencement of the new academic year.

Commissioner Naveen appealed to students, parents, teachers, and the general public to work collectively to ensure that every child’s journey to school is both safe and enjoyable. He specifically urged citizens to exercise vigilance regarding safety in areas surrounding schools and on public roads.

“The Maldives Police Service will always remain committed to ensuring the safety of children and to the efforts needed to build a safe and caring society in collaboration with schools,” Commissioner Naveen stated.

He emphasised that the beginning of a new academic year signifies an important moment, bringing with it new hopes, resolutions, and opportunities for progress. “This is a valuable opportunity to learn essential qualities and knowledge needed for your entire lives,” he added.

Broader Definition of Education

Commissioner Naveen highlighted that education extends beyond merely acquiring knowledge from books. He defined it as encompassing the development of good manners, civility, taking responsibility, and learning to respect one another. These qualities, he underscored, are essential for constructing a safe and happy society.

The new academic year commenced today, with over 77,000 students across approximately 218 government schools resuming their studies.
