The Secretary General of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), Muaz Haleem, has resigned from his position to facilitate the party’s ongoing restructuring efforts. The decision aims to align the party’s operations more closely with the vision of its leader, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Haleem expressed that his resignation is intended to support the President’s efforts to transform the PNC into a more effective political force that resonates with public sentiment. He emphasized the importance of achieving tangible results for the people through a strengthened party apparatus.

Haleem further noted that the responsibilities of the Secretary General require a dedicated commitment of time. He stated that it is in the party’s best interest to appoint an individual who can devote the necessary focus to the role as the party enters its next phase of growth.

The PNC has recently seen a significant surge in its political footprint, becoming the largest political party in the Maldives. It currently boasts a membership of over 74,000 individuals, marking a period of rapid expansion in the nation’s political landscape.
