NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened with national security advisers and senior security officials from BRICS nations on Tuesday, stressing the coalition’s expanding responsibility in tackling international security threats.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi utilized the meeting to press for tighter alliances among member states on critical issues, specifically terrorism, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. He noted that as the geopolitical and technological landscapes rapidly shift, BRICS must play a pivotal part in reinforcing joint security initiatives.

During the discussions, the prime minister also detailed the core objectives for India’s impending leadership of the bloc. He explained that New Delhi will concentrate on fostering tangible partnerships among the member nations while championing the interests of the Global South.

“India’s Chairmanship will seek to advance practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South and contribute to a safer, more secure and inclusive world,” Modi stated in a post on X following the assembly.

The talks take place as the BRICS consortium—originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, alongside its newer members—aims to broaden its footprint in global governance, economic cooperation, and security affairs. Modi reiterated India’s dedication to uniting with its BRICS counterparts to confront shared obstacles and bolster international peace and security.
