Maldives Immigration has officially launched passport services in Gdh. Gadhdhoo, marking a significant step in the administration’s commitment to decentralizing essential government services. This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy to bring state services closer to the citizens and reduce the administrative burden on residents in the atolls.

With this expansion, Gadhdhoo becomes the second location in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll to provide passport services, which were previously exclusive to Thinadhoo City within the region. According to Maldives Immigration, applicants using the ‘Imuga’ online platform can now select Gadhdhoo as their preferred collection point for new and renewed passports.

The government’s broader strategy aims to minimize the historical dependency on the Greater Malé region for essential documentation. Since the beginning of President Muizzu’s term, the administration has focused on streamlining the issuance of identity cards and travel documents, ensuring these services are accessible across all atolls to enhance public convenience and efficiency.
