The People’s Majlis has officially scheduled a session for tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM to conduct a vote on the no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP, Ahmed Nazim.
The resolution, which was submitted by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), is the sole item on the agenda for tomorrow’s proceedings. Last week, the Parliament’s General Purpose Committee finalized the procedural guidelines for the motion, allotting a total of one hour for the debate. Under these rules, 50 minutes have been designated for general parliamentary debate, while Deputy Speaker Nazim will be granted 10 minutes to present his defense.
The move to remove Nazim gained momentum on May 13, when the PNC Parliamentary Group passed the decision internally. The formal resolution subsequently submitted to the Majlis carried the signatures of 73 members. According to the standing orders of the People’s Majlis, the removal of a Deputy Speaker requires a simple majority vote from the members present and participating in the session.
