The People’s Majlis has officially granted its approval for the appointment of former Attorney General Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives’ representative to the European Union (EU) and Belgium.
The nomination, which was submitted to the Parliament by the President on July 7, received 52 votes in favor during today’s session. The decision follows a thorough review by the Committee on Foreign Relations, which concluded that Saeed possesses the necessary qualifications and experience to fulfill the diplomatic mandate. The committee’s report was adopted unanimously by the floor without opposition.
Saeed has an extensive career in public service, having previously served as the Attorney General during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed and as the Minister of Gender during the presidency of Dr. Mohamed Waheed. Prior to this new appointment, she served as an Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since April.
