Body of Maldivian Male Recovered After Cargo Vessel Capsizes, One Still Missing

MALÉ – The body of a Maldivian male has been recovered following the capsizing of a cargo vessel, ‘Balma-6’, near Taj Exotica Resort. Four individuals were aboard the vessel when the incident occurred, with a foreign national still reported missing and two others rescued.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed that the body was found near the resort. This development comes as search efforts continue for the remaining missing individual, a foreign national who was also on board the ‘Balma-6’.

Two crew members were successfully rescued from the water by a passing dinghy shortly after the vessel overturned. The cargo boat, identified as ‘Balma-6’, capsized in the vicinity of Taj Exotica Resort.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the vessel’s capsizing remains unclear. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the incident as an investigation is presumed to be underway.
