The Maldives Police Service Disciplinary Board has recommended the dismissal of a police officer following the damage of $30,000 held in state custody.

According to official statements, the funds were seized seven years ago in connection with a criminal investigation and were being maintained under the supervision of the Police Finance Department. An internal probe concluded that the substantial sum was damaged due to the direct negligence of a specific employee.

Following a review of the incident, the Disciplinary Board advised that the officer responsible be terminated from service. While the police did not specify the exact nature of the case linked to the seized currency, such assets are typically confiscated during investigations into illicit activities or financial crimes.
