Residents of Malé have been receiving mysterious “Rainy Day Kits” over the past few days, sparking widespread curiosity across the capital. The movement has gained significant traction on social media, where the hashtag #ThoofaanAhnany (A Storm is Coming) has begun to trend as the public attempts to decipher the origin of these gifts.

Each package contains a raincoat, an umbrella, a rain-themed sticker sheet, a headband, and a unique cloud-shaped pen, among other items. While these are practical gifts given the current heavy Southwest Monsoon rains, the kits notably lack any corporate logos, branding, or contact information that would identify the benefactor.

The only clue provided is a small card included in each kit featuring a short poem about the rain, followed by a single date: 27 August. No further details regarding what will occur on that date have been released.

Public speculation is currently divided. Some residents believe it is a creative awareness campaign regarding the weather, while others suggest it is a viral marketing stunt for a new product launch, film, or television drama. Despite the buzz, no government agency, production house, or advertising firm has yet claimed responsibility for the distribution.

This unconventional approach marks a departure from traditional Maldivian marketing tactics. With the date on the cards arriving tomorrow, the true purpose behind the kits is expected to be revealed shortly.
