President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for a collective global voice against the escalating violence targeting humanitarian workers, emphasizing that the protection of aid personnel is an international moral obligation.

In a formal message marking World Humanitarian Day, the President stated that a nation’s geographical size should never be an excuse to ignore its ethical responsibilities. He noted that the Maldives remains committed to standing in solidarity with those who provide aid under life-threatening conditions, particularly as global demand for assistance rises due to war, displacement, and climate disasters.

Highlighting the ongoing crisis in Gaza, President Muizzu identified the region as the most dangerous place for humanitarian efforts today. He strongly condemned the intentional obstruction of aid and attacks on workers, labeling these actions as grave violations of international humanitarian law and criminal acts.

Concluding his message, the President reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian people and renewed his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. As a signatory to the Fourth Geneva Convention, he reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to a rules-based international system that ensures the safety of civilians and humanitarian personnel.
