President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that physical work on modern indoor sports centers for bowling, futsal, and netball in Hulhumalé will commence shortly. These facilities are designed to enhance youth well-being and provide advanced recreational opportunities.

Speaking on “The Pulse” podcast, the President confirmed that land has been allocated and contracts have been awarded for these projects. He noted that initial funding has been released, assuring that the Maldives’ first indoor bowling arena will be completed in Hulhumalé Phase 1 within the coming year.

The administration’s plans include a multi-story futsal complex capable of hosting international tournaments and training sessions. Additionally, a modern indoor netball complex featuring dedicated pitches is in the development pipeline, with land and financing already secured.

President Muizzu also highlighted further recreational developments, including the start of work on an international-standard go-kart track in Hulhumalé. Furthermore, he noted that construction has begun on a surfing stadium at Male’s Raalhugandu area, addressing a long-standing need for the surfing community.

The government aims to have all major sports infrastructure projects initiated within the next year. The objective is to ensure these facilities are fully operational and open to the public by the first quarter of 2028.
