The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has described the achievements of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration in addressing the issue of undocumented migrant workers as a historic success unparalleled by previous governments.

Minister Ihusaan’s remarks follow positive updates shared by the President regarding “Operation Kurangi,” a national initiative aimed at regularizing the expatriate population. According to official data, the government has successfully collected biometric information—including fingerprints and photographs—for 98 percent of authorized foreign workers currently in the Maldives.

This represents a significant leap from the 13 percent coverage recorded when the administration assumed office on November 17, 2023. The President emphasized that the next six months will prioritize identifying individuals residing in the country without valid documentation and facilitating their deportation to establish a permanent solution to the migration crisis.

Minister Ihusaan expressed gratitude to the “Home Team” and collaborating agencies for their tireless efforts in driving this revolutionary change. He noted that the coordinated approach between state institutions has allowed the government to tackle a complex issue that had remained unresolved for decades.
