Galolhu South MP Mickail Ahmed Naseem has formally requested disciplinary action against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Vice Chairperson, Ibrahim Waheed, for his active involvement in former President Mohamed Nasheed’s campaign.

In a letter addressed to the MDP’s acting Chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, Mickail expressed concerns regarding Waheed’s participation in campaign activities for the upcoming party leadership elections. Mickail argued that it is professionally inappropriate for an individual holding a senior administrative post within the party to be involved in the campaign of a specific candidate.

Mickail, who is also contesting for the Chairperson position, stated that social media evidence, including photos and videos, confirms Waheed’s presence at Nasheed’s campaign events. He emphasized that such actions undermine the neutrality expected from party officials during internal elections.

This development underscores the persistent internal divisions within the MDP. While efforts have been made to unify the party following the return of Nasheed’s faction, tensions remain high. Previous disputes include a motion to remove the acting Chairperson after Nasheed was reportedly denied the opportunity to speak at a party event celebrating local council election results.
