Member of Parliament for South Galolhu, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has demanded that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) provide a detailed account of how MVR 4 million from the party budget was spent on salaries.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Meekail, who is currently contesting for the position of MDP Chairperson, asserted that a standard annual audit report is insufficient for ensuring financial accountability. He emphasized that the party leadership must be transparent with its members regarding income, expenditures, and the status of its fixed assets.

“The general membership is stating that this party is not being managed effectively and is calling for change,” Meekail said, highlighting growing dissatisfaction within the party’s ranks. He argued that members have a fundamental right to know the specifics of how party resources are being utilized.

This demand comes at a time of heightened internal friction within the MDP as it prepares for internal leadership elections. Recent reports indicate that tensions have escalated in official communication channels, with some factions calling for the resignation of the party’s interim leadership amidst the ongoing power struggle.
