President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed Mohamed Hussain Shareef as the Government Spokesperson at a ministerial rank. The appointment ceremony took place at the President’s Office, marking a significant transition in the administration’s communication wing.

The position became vacant following the appointment of the former spokesperson, Heena Waleed, as the Minister of Heritage. Shareef, widely known by the name ‘Mundu’, transitions into this role from his most recent posting as the Maldivian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Shareef brings a wealth of experience to the post, having served in various high-level capacities throughout his career. His background includes service as a Cabinet Minister and as an Ambassador to several nations. Notably, he previously held the position of Chief Government Spokesman from 2005 to 2007 and Presidential Spokesperson from 2007 to 2008. He also played a key role during the inception of the Strategic Communications Unit at the President’s Office.
