NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with senior security officials and national security advisers from BRICS nations, emphasizing the coalition’s expanding influence in tackling international security threats.

A statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office noted that Modi urged member states to deepen their collaboration on critical fronts such as emerging technologies, cybersecurity, and terrorism. He highlighted that the bloc must play a pivotal part in reinforcing joint security efforts as the world faces shifting technological and geopolitical landscapes.

Looking ahead to India’s forthcoming tenure as the chair of the organization, the Prime Minister detailed New Delhi’s primary objectives, which include championing the needs of the Global South and fostering actionable partnerships among member countries.

Following the discussions, Modi stated in a post on X: “India’s Chairmanship will seek to advance practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South and contribute to a safer, more secure and inclusive world.”

These high-level talks occur as the BRICS coalition—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and recently added members—aims to broaden its footprint in global economic, governance, and security affairs. Modi reiterated India’s dedication to partnering with its BRICS allies to confront shared obstacles and enhance collaboration in sectors vital to global peace and security.
