The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has issued an advisory to businesses to secure necessary cash and coins this week in preparation for the upcoming Eid-al-Adha holidays. The government is scheduled to be closed for an extended period from May 24 to May 30, 2026.

To mitigate potential challenges for the public and the business community during the break, the central bank announced that commercial banks will briefly open on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Banking services on this day will be available from 08:30 to 14:00.

However, the MMA emphasized that this special opening is reserved for specific transactions only. Crucially, no cash or coin disbursement services will be provided on May 28. Consequently, the authority has urged all commercial entities to finalize their liquid currency arrangements before the holiday period begins to ensure uninterrupted trade and commerce.
