The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has successfully recovered MVR 882 million in outstanding taxes and dues during the past month. This significant recovery is part of the authority’s intensified efforts to collect unpaid state revenue from various taxpayers.

According to MIRA, the breakdown of the recovered funds includes MVR 411 million collected through dues clearance processes and MVR 397 million secured through proactive enforcement and recovery initiatives. Furthermore, MVR 61 million was obtained via installment plans, while MVR 13 million was recovered following direct reminders via phone calls and emails.

The authority recently published a list of 43 businesses that have failed to settle their Income Tax obligations. MIRA’s latest reports indicate that total outstanding revenue owed to the state remains substantial, estimated to be over MVR 15 billion. These arrears primarily consist of unpaid Goods and Services Tax (GST), resort land rents, and Corporate Income Tax.
