Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has been officially appointed as the Amir al-Hajj for this year’s pilgrimage season. The role of Amir al-Hajj involves serving as the head of the Maldivian Hajj delegation and overseeing the welfare of all pilgrims traveling from the Maldives to Saudi Arabia.
Following his appointment, Minister Saeed departed for Saudi Arabia earlier today, traveling with the final group of Maldivian pilgrims. This concluding flight carried 253 pilgrims, marking the successful departure of all Maldivians scheduled to perform Hajj this year.
The pilgrimage process for Maldivians continues to be facilitated under the ‘Makkah Route Initiative.’ This initiative allows pilgrims to complete Saudi Arabian immigration and customs procedures at Velana International Airport prior to departure, ensuring a more seamless arrival in the Kingdom.
