Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has officially launched a comprehensive educational book set designed specifically for the foundation stages of schooling. Dr. Shaheem, who also oversees the project, inaugurated the series during a special ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the Maldives’ educational landscape.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Shaheem highlighted that the project, which commenced in 2021, is a vital educational initiative centered on Islamic upbringing. The complete series consists of 65 books tailored for Baby Nursery, Nursery, Lower Kindergarten (LKG), and Upper Kindergarten (UKG). These books encompass all subjects within the national curriculum, while also integrating specialized modules for Arabic language and Islamic etiquette.
Developed under the guidance of Islamic educational philosophy, the book set was compiled by Mariyam Shazna, a former curriculum developer at the National Institute for Education. Other key contributors include Abidha for the Quran syllabus, Nina for Baby Nursery Arabic, and Khadija Abdullah, who handled illustrations and design. The materials underwent a rigorous review process by experts including Ustaz Imtithau Abbas, Ustaz Mohamed Firuzul, and Shifayath Ali.
While 16 books for the Baby Nursery level were published today, the remaining 49 books have already been authored and are currently in the production phase. The Minister extended his gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed Latheef, Ali Ahsan (CEO of Madina Investments), and Ali Ashfaq (Co-founder of IOCC) for their administrative support, as well as to the financial donors who made the project possible.
This initiative represents the first of its kind in the Maldives, designed for use both in pre-schools and by parents at home. The project remains open for further financial contributions as it moves toward completing the full publication of the series.
