In a significant move to expand the international footprint of the Maldivian fisheries industry, the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has officially launched its product range in the Sri Lankan market. The ceremony, held to mark this historic expansion, was honored by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, officially introduced the ‘Fasmeeru’ brand products to the Sri Lankan audience. The product lineup includes canned tuna, smoked tuna, fish paste (rihaakuru), and processed ground fish. The event was also attended by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Trade and Food Security, Vasantha Samarasinghe, and the CEO of Interplan Ceylon, Zuraish Hashim.
This expansion is part of a broader government strategy to maximize revenue from the fisheries sector. Following the launch of the ‘From Maldives’ national brand last July, the Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation has been working to enhance processing and cold storage capabilities. This initiative aims to establish a robust presence for Maldivian products in global markets, ensuring higher value for local producers.
