The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has issued an urgent public alert following the discovery of counterfeit cancer medication within the country. The authority confirmed that falsified versions of Opdivo, a critical immunotherapy injection used in cancer treatment, have been successfully imported into the Maldives.

While the MFDA has confirmed the presence of these unauthorized medical products, the specific parties responsible for the importation have not yet been disclosed to the public. In the interest of safety, the authority has officially prohibited the import, sale, and clinical use of these falsified injections nationwide.

To mitigate further risks, the MFDA announced that it is intensifying inspection protocols at all pharmaceutical import ports. The authority emphasized that it will take all necessary measures to strengthen surveillance and prevent such hazardous medications from entering the Maldivian market in the future.
