Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced a 50% reduction in registration and category fees for food service establishments. The new fee structure will be effective immediately for a period of two years.

The decision, communicated recently by the MFDA, applies to fees levied for the registration and licensing of all food service establishments and associated entities operating within the Maldives. This initiative is being implemented under the authority’s transitional guidelines for the regulation of such services.

Regulatory Context

This fee adjustment follows recent efforts by the MFDA to enhance regulatory oversight within the food service sector. The authority has intensified operational regulations for establishments in response to increasing public health concerns regarding food hygiene standards and preparation in potentially unsanitary environments.

Furthermore, in February of the previous year, the MFDA introduced stringent regulations pertaining to food advertising. These regulations were accompanied by substantial fines for non-compliance, aiming to ensure public safety and accurate representation within the food industry.
