Maldives Food and Drug Authority Issues Advisory Over Contaminated Handy Water Products

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has today issued a public advisory cautioning consumers against the use of specific bottled water products from the local premium brand, Handy Water, following the detection of microorganisms. The authority stated that the identified products do not meet the drinking water standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

In an announcement released today, the MFDA specified that the contamination was found in Handy Water’s 300ml and 500ml glass bottles, as well as its 1-litre glass bottles. The MFDA urged consumers to refrain from using these products until further instructions are provided by the authority.

The MFDA did not disclose the specific type of microorganisms found in the affected bottled water products.
