The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has extended a Yellow Alert for significant portions of the country as citizens prepare to travel for the upcoming Eid-al-Adha holidays.

According to the latest forecast, the area between Baa Atoll and Alif Alif Atoll remains under a Yellow Alert until 15:00 local time today. Authorities anticipate wind speeds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, accompanied by exceptionally rough seas. Additionally, a White Alert has been issued from Haa Alif Atoll in the north to Vaavu Atoll in the central region, effective until 17:00.

The MET Office warns that heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across various regions for the next five days. This stormy period coincides with the ‘Roanu’ Nakshatra, a phase in the traditional Maldivian calendar known for turbulent weather and strong winds.

With the large-scale movement of people via sea transport beginning tomorrow, authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution and closely monitor weather updates before embarking on any maritime journeys.
