A new chapter for the local film industry began last night with the official premiere of Medianet’s original series, “Gana,” now available on Video Club. The series launch was celebrated with a prestigious red carpet event at Olympus on May 2, 2026, attended by a significant number of artists, influencers, and industry leaders.
Produced by Akkaf and written and directed by the acclaimed Ravee Farooq, “Gana” focuses on the critical social issue of bullying. In an era where mental health and social ethics are of paramount importance, the series aims to highlight the negative impacts of bullying on individuals and society, promoting a message of empathy and zero tolerance for such behavior.
Beyond its powerful narrative, the series is notable for providing opportunities to several talented newcomers in the Maldivian creative arts sector. As of May 2, the series is accessible via the mm.medianet.mv portal, allowing viewers across the Maldives—including those in the atolls who may not have easy access to cinemas—to stream the content at their convenience.
The release coincides with Medianet’s “Stream & Fly” campaign. Subscribers to Video Club, specifically those using the MVR 333 annual mobile subscription or the MVR 100 monthly TV add-on, stand a chance to win a trip to Istanbul, Turkey, for two. This promotion is conducted in partnership with Turkish Airlines by Expedite Maldives.
